Exhibit A — Signature Verdict

State of Texas v. David Barajas

Not Guilty — All Charges
ChargeMurder
ExposureUp to Life
VenueBrazoria County
VerdictAugust 2014

In December 2012, David Barajas and his two sons were pushing their stalled truck the last few yards toward their home when a drunk driver plowed into them, killing 12-year-old David Jr. and 11-year-old Caleb. The driver was later found dead of a gunshot wound. Prosecutors charged the grieving father with murder.

Sam Cammack III served as lead defense counsel. The defense established that no murder weapon was ever recovered, that Barajas had never owned a firearm, and that a forensic gunshot-residue analysis came back negative. Prosecution witnesses themselves gave testimony that undercut the State's timeline. The jury acquitted Barajas of all charges.

There are no winners here, but the jury verdict is a sign of momentary vindication for Mr. Barajas and his family after their tragic loss. — Sam Cammack III, following the verdict
